Charles R. Rice, born on February 28, 1924 in Clarkton, Missouri, passed peacefully on November 12, 2015, in Dallas, Texas. Charles served in the U.S. Army in an enlisted status from 1943 to 1946 and from 1951 to 1953 as an officer during the Korean War stationed in Japan. Charles and his beloved wife Lynne were married in Yokahama in 1952. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on March 14, 2002.
Charles graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in Business Administration and worked for State Farm Insurance for 34 years. He and his wife were members of First Presbyterian Church, Richardson, where Charles served as an Elder. In his retirement, Charles loved volunteering as Stewpot captain (First Presbyterian, Dallas), feeding the homeless for many years. In addition, he volunteered with CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) working on behalf of foster children.
Charles was a prolific watercolor artist and loved to paint landscapes in particular. An avid tennis player, he co-organized a senior men’s tennis group in Richardson which is still vital today.
Charles is survived by daughter Rebecca Rice and her partner Rose DeNunzio, Pamela Porter and her husband Robert and grandchildren Cecilia and Drew. Additionally, Charles is survived by sister Mrs. D.F. Robbins and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held 11:00am, December 16, 2015 at Sparkman Richardson Funeral Home.
Interment with military honors will be held 2:00pm, December 17, 2015 at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
