Karen Kay Porter, 78, of Seattle, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, July 5, 2021 at her home in Tukwila, Wa. She was born on June 17, 1943 in Peoria, Illinois to the late Etta Jones and Vincent Porter and raised by Etta and John Pryor.
Karen graduated from Garfield High School Class of 1961 and retired from Pacific Northwest Bell Company in the 90’s. Karen was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister and friend. There was nothing she wouldn’t do for you, if she had the means. She had a big heart, an impeccable eye for fashion, was real and she didn’t take no mess. Karen had a hearty infectious laugh and everything she did, she did in the spirit of excellence.
Karen is survived by her only grandson, Donyai Tucker of Des Moines, Wa.; niece Lisa Smith of Des Moines, Wa., nephew Troy Smith of Auburn, Wa; great nieces Whitney Smith and Maiya Metzger Smith, both of Renton, Wa. and a host of cousins, relatives and friends. Karen is preceded in death by her only child, Derek Andre Tucker. Memorial services will be held graveside at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 15, 2021 at Greenwood Memorial Park.
