1938-2024
We are saddened to announce the passing of Romeo “Romy” B. Iglesias. Despite medical efforts, he passed away at the General Hospital on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at the age of 86.
Romy was born in Bayambang, Pangasinan, Philippines, and was a cherished member of the “Burgos Boys Band” as the lead singer. During one of his performances, he met his beloved wife, Purita “Puring” B. Iglesias, with whom he shared 65 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they raised six children, instilling in them the values of hard work, resilience, and education.
In 1986, seeking better opportunities for his family, Romy immigrated to Canada, where he embraced his new home. He worked diligently in security at PSU (Pangasinan State University) before spending over a decade at Taylor Automotive Group, Regina, Saskatchewan, where he developed his passion for cars. His dedication and work ethic earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues and friends alike.
Romy spent his free time riding his motorcycle, walking around Wascana Park, and having coffee and lunch dates with his wife and children. He looked forward to family gatherings. He took great pride in his children’s and grandchildren’s achievements, always encouraging them to pursue their dreams.
Despite the challenges of moving to a new country, Romy never regretted his decision to immigrate to Canada. He embraced his life here, considering it home, and often expressed gratitude for the opportunities it provided his family. His bravery, passion for education, and unwavering support for his children will be remembered and admired by all who knew him.
Romy leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and dedication that will forever remain in the hearts of his family and friends. He will be dearly missed.
He was predeceased by Sonia Ignacio, Lory Sabangan, and his son Gerry Iglesias, who passed away on July 28th, 2024. Romy is survived by Purita and his sister, Leony Concepcion, his kids; Helen, Elizabeth (Jun), Mariette (Kevin), Armie (Norm), and Robert (Kristin), Gerry’s partner, Alison and his 17 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
