Maria Dumba passed away in Calgary, Alberta, on Tuesday, May 24, 2022. She was born in Dysart, Saskatchewan, the second child of Joseph and Mary Dumba. She was predeceased by brothers Peter and Andrew (Elaine); sister Elena (Dan) Morse; and sister-in-law Joan. She is survived by her brothers Con and Gordon (Janice); and sister-in-law Gerry. She also leaves to mourn many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Maria started her education at Gardiner School, a small country school and completed high school in Cupar, Saskatchewan. She then attended Business College in Regina, Saskatchewan. She worked at Social Services and Federated Co-op before moving to Calgary, Alberta, where she started working with George McLeod at Samedan Oil Corporation. She stayed with Samedan and its successors moving to Ardmore, Oklahoma, in 1974. She retired, returned to Canada in 1986 and started Geolock Resources Ltd. with George and his son Lachlan, serving as the company's Treasurer for 30 years until finally retiring for good in 2016. Needless to say, Maria had a long and successful business career.
Maria loved to travel. She travelled to Hawaii, California, Mexico, the United Kingdom, throughout Western Europe, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Morocco, and Egypt. She was an avid reader, a lover of mysteries and history, she also enjoyed astronomy. She loved Sinatra and Bocelli. She was curious and had a heart of gold. She truly was a kind and giving person, and her generosity is what made her happy. Family was most important to her. She took family on vacations, opened her home to nephews and nieces, and always insisted on paying for meals when the family got together. Maria never married but always said she had 13 kids… her nieces and nephews.
Maria's Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Victoria Avenue Funeral Home, 2080 East Victoria Avenue in Regina, SK. Masks will be required.
