Alfred Jacob Bast 1926-2017 - passed away peacefully surrounded by his children on February 14, 2017 at the age of 91. Alfred joined on Valentine’s Day the love of his life, Mary (deceased 2014). Alfred will be forever remembered by his children, Linda (Jerry) Metz, Darlene Jacobson, Francis (Karen) Bast and Judy (Raymond) Gartner; grandchildren, Darryl (Wanda) Metz, Donald (Jennifer) Metz, Kevin (Tammy) Metz, Carla (Frank) Browne, Carey (Colleen) Jacobson, Anita (Dean) Swanson, Cory (Rena) Bast, Kyla (Bradley) Herauf, Mark Gartner, Christine (Armando) Bottaro; great grandchildren, Zachary, Noah, Joshua, Ben, Jonah, Jonah, Ethan, Kendra, Parker, Preston, Ashleigh (Chad) Thorten, Codey, Cole, Emily, Levi, Jesse, Lola and great, great grandchild Sophie. Also left to cherish his memory is family friend Loretta Bast; brothers Frank(Dorothy) Bast, Richard (Margaret) Bast, Frederick (Sheryl) Bast, Joseph (Karen) Bast, Anthony (Kathy) Bast; sisters Josephine Ziegler, Rose Church, Bernadette Selinger, Theresa Lipp, Christina (Anderew) Ziegler, Catherine Hensrud as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Alfred is predeceased by his wife Mary (Ziegler), parents Frank H. and Katherine (Schmidt) Bast; Mother and Father in law John and Anne (Lipp) Ziegler; sisters Lorraine Bast, Mary Vogt and Pauline Sigmeth; in laws Chris and Mary Ziegler, Barbara and Ross Brilz, Magdalena and John Frohlick, Frank and Matilda Ziegler, Theresa and Jack Schaeffer, Julia and Fred Ell, Tony Ziegler, Wendell Vogt, George Sigmeth, Glenn Church, Ralph Selinger, Vaughan Hensrud, George Lipp, Violet Bast.
Alfred was a loving Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, brother and friend. He was born, raised and spent most of his life in Dilke, Sk. where he was an active member of the community such as Village Councilor and Secretary, Director and Secretary of Athletic Curling and Baseballclubs, a member of church board and a member of the Knights of Columbus for over 65 years. Alfred worked with his Dad in an auto and implement dealership in the late 1930’s and 40’s. He then worked as a contractor trucking petroleum in the 50’s. In 1960 he sold the trucking business to the Dilke Co-Op and first became service station manager, then General Manager for another 25 years. After their retirement Alfred and Mary moved to Regina and Alfred took up woodworking, then baking. Alfred was always there for his family. He had a very special relationship with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Alfred will be dearly missed by all, not only for his gentle ways, but especially for his baking. Special thanks to all of the staff of Grace Hospice, for all their excellent and compassionate care.
