Janet Karol Norton, 76, of Canton, IL, passed away on August 14, 2024. She was born to parents Robert and Reva Hopwood on September 21, 1947, in Peoria, IL., and was a 1965 graduate of Elmwood High School. Janet married her beloved husband, Curtis T. Norton, in 1985; he survives.
Janet retired from her role as an accounting clerk at Kress Corporation in Brimfield, IL, after 30+ years of dedicated service. She worked alongside her dear sister, Peggy Doubet, for most of those years, and was fortunate to meet her lifelong friend, Linda Nelson, during her tenure.
Janet’s love for her family was unwavering. In addition to Curtis, Janet is survived by her cherished daughters Angela (Blair) Ackman and Jennifer (Steve) Kohlbrecher, Paige Ackman (granddaughter), Carter & Bennett Ackman (grandsons), stepsons Jason (Samantha) Norton, and Aaron (Star) Norton, Bailey Norton (granddaughter), Maggie (Tristin) Norton-Rilea (granddaughter), and Curtis, Joseph, and Cole Norton (grandsons).
Janet was the youngest of six children and grew up surrounded by her large, loving family. Surviving are siblings Peggy (Lyle) Doubet, Joanne Lorendo, and Dennis (the late Donna) Hopwood, sister-in-law Thelma Hopwood, and many dearly loved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers Eugene Hopwood and Bob (the late Marilyn) Hopwood, her cherished nephew Wally Doubet, and in-laws Joseph and Doris Norton.
Janet was known for her kind, tender heart. She loved spending time with her pets and contributed regularly to multiple charities, including the Humane Society, St. Jude, Whitney’s Walk, and the Susan G. Komen Foundation. A self-described homebody, her happiest days were those spent caring for her well-loved home and flowers or savoring a glass of wine curled up by the fireplace. She was health-conscious and enjoyed her daily walks well into her 70s. Janet couldn’t sit still when her favorite 50s and 60s music was played, and she simply glowed while dancing with her husband, Curt. She loved to spoil her family with gifts that she meticulously, carefully selected. When Janet loved you, you knew it; she told you with her genuine, heart-felt words and showed you with her long, warm hugs and her selfless, thoughtful actions.
Janet will be deeply missed, and our memories of her will always be cherished.
