Carolyn Jeanne Canady of Taylor, Michigan, was born to Harry and Margeabelle Meltzer on July 25, 1936 in Pittsfield, Illinois. She was one of 9 children. Carolyn passed away peacefully, in Wyandotte, Michigan, on Monday December 17, 2018 at the age of 82.
Carolyn was the beloved wife of the late Leonard, who has been waiting for her in Heaven since 2003 after 47 happy years of marriage. Carolyn was the beloved mother of Linda (David) Spurgess, Rhonda (Randy) Howe, Karen (David) Dyda, Brenda (James) Plohg, and Jenifer (Jeff M.) Canady.
Loving granny of David S. (Shelly) Spurgess II, Nathan A. (Holly) Spurgess, Randy P. (Jessi) Howe, David E. (Melinda) Howe, Christy Ann (Steven) McKinzie, David A. (Stacey) Dyda II, Karissa Jeanne Dyda, Jason Alan (Tara Cason) Shelton, Stephanie Lynn (Rob) Gepes, Michael R. Canady, and Joshua P. Canady.
Carolyn also leaves behind 19 great-grandchildren (and one on the way): Brooklyn, Skylar, Clara Jo, Ava Jo, Wyatt, Jacob, Luke, Andrew, Aliva, Justin, Hendrix, Jayden, Emily, Mikalah, Haley, Abigail, Dain, Deja, and Brelynn.
Dear sister of the late Marilyn Radford, Beatrice "Bea" Johnson, Sharon McCauley, the late Donna Guinion, the late David Meltzer, the late Betty Miller, Gerald "Jerry" Meltzer and Dennis Meltzer.
She will also be missed by her loyal companion "Subway" the cat
Carolyn was born in a large family and raised her own large family. She adored being surrounded by children and even took on the responsibility of caring for her nieces and nephews. Most evenings she cared for at least 10 children at a time, making sure a nightly bath was part of the routine for all 10 children. Carolyn was clever and creative with the discipline; For example, she would pin actual tails on the children that would be “tattle tails”, and any children that would argue, would be made to walk and hold hands until they got along.
When Carolyn did work outside the home, she was still surrounded by children. She was the “Lunch-lady” at Truman Junior High and High Schools. However, she also loved to work the election days at the voting booth stations.
Carolyn was a strong Christian woman who was known as the peace-maker. Her many son-in-laws describe her as a good mother-in-law to have. She was famous for her blackberry cobbler and cornbread. She really enjoyed canning green beans, corn and beets. Carolyn was a huge Detroit Pistons fan and wrote down every score of every game she watched. She was also a music lover and could be found listening to everything from country music to her beloved Kid Rock who she loved because he was from Detroit where she was raised. Although, Carolyn’s passion was her family. She simply loved being a wife, mom, granny, great-granny and surrogate mom to all the children that adored her. Carolyn had a gentle heart and a kind soul, she will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her.
Carolyn's family will receive friends for a visitation on Thursday, December 20, 2018 from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Harry J. Will Funeral Home, 25450 Plymouth Road, Redford Township, Michigan 48239. There will be an opportunity to share memories at 7:00 PM.
The funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM on Friday, December 21, 2018 at Harry J. Will Funeral Home. Visiting will begin at 10:00 AM. The funeral service will be led by Donnie Phillips, an Elder and Youth Minister of Gateway Church of Christ in Southgate.
Carolyn will be laid to rest with her husband Leonard in Michigan Memorial Park Cemetery, Flat Rock, Michigan.
Serving as pallbearers are Rhonda Howe, Randy Howe, Randy P. Howe, David Howe, David S. Spurgess II, Nathan S. Spurgess, David S. Spurgess and David A. Dyda II.
