Mrs. Wilma Lee Oberst

Wilma Oberst, a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother, gracefully danced her way through 87 remarkable years of life. On September 22, she departed peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, compassion, and a life filled with profound experiences that will forever be cherished by those fortunate enough to have known her.

Born on March 30, 1936, in a small community just north of Batesville, Arkansas, Wilma was the second oldest among six sisters in the Bufford family. Her parents, Birtis and Bertha Bufford, instilled in her the values of hard work and the importance of family from an early age.

Wilma's journey took her to Bakersfield, California, where she completed her grade school and high school education. In her late teens, she donned a pair of roller skates and became a "car hop" at a local drive-in, embodying her vibrant and dynamic spirit. During this time, she married Henry Buffalo, and together, they welcomed four beautiful daughters into their lives. Sadly, their marriage ended a few years after the birth of their youngest daughter in 1962.

As a single mother raising four daughters, Wilma faced numerous challenges. She worked tirelessly, often taking double shifts as a waitress to make ends meet. It was during these trying times that the depth of her family's love and her sisters' unwavering support forged an unbreakable bond of sisterhood and closeness that persisted throughout her life.

In 1968, Wilma embarked on a new chapter when she married Harold Lind. This union blended two families, and Wilma's capacity for love knew no bounds. She embraced the role of a mother to Harold's two daughters with the same devotion she showed to her own children. Her nurturing spirit played a pivotal role in creating a warm and loving environment. Their house became a haven for all to stay and play. Everyone was always welcomed!

In 1975, Wilma and Harold welcomed a daughter of their own into their family, bringing the total number of girls in their household to seven. Just 16 months later, in 1977, Wilma joyfully embraced the role of grandmother when her first granddaughter arrived, followed by her first grandson just four months later.

In 1978, Wilma and Harold sold Valley Auto Parts Store and relocated with their three youngest girls to Redding, California. Wilma dedicated herself to her work, first with a private bookkeeping firm and later as the manager for Redding Christian Supply, where she faithfully served for 16 years until her retirement.

After Harold's passing, in 1995, Wilma found love once more when she married Cal Oberst in 1996. The couple shared a deep and enduring connection, savoring their retirement years with enthusiasm. They reveled in the joy of dance and the thrill of exploring far-off destinations together, creating countless cherished memories traveling with their RV group, "Heavenly Wheels."

As an active member of Pathway Church, Wilma touched the lives of many, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her.

As we bid farewell to our beloved Wilma, let us remember her with smiles, laughter, and the joy she brought into our lives. Though she may have danced her way to heaven, her spirit will forever dance in our hearts.

Wilma is survived by her loving husband, Cal Oberst, and her sister, Janie Myers. Her legacy continues through her children: Sandy Lind, Brenda Francis, Jerri Fox, Kathy Rogers, and Angela Lind, including deceased daughters Nita Mills and Linda Hiemforth. She also leaves behind a precious legacy in her loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will forever cherish the memories they shared with their beloved "GiGi."

Wilma is also survived by a host of relatives and friends who will miss her deeply.

A memorial service to celebrate Wilma's life will be held on Saturday, October 14, at 11 am at Pathway Church, 777 Loma Vista Drive, Redding, CA.
