Michael O’Leary Kirk was born on 1-30-1947 in Los Angeles, California. He was one of 8 siblings that grew up in Los Angeles until moving to Richmond, California at age 12. He graduated from Richmond High School in 1965. After high school he set on a path to become a Fish and Game Warden beginning his college work at Contra Costa College.
Michael’s college endeavors were ceased once he was Drafted to the US Army to serve his beloved country in the Vietnam War. He served his country without apprehension in active combat with the 9th Division, 47 Mechanized Infantry A Company from 1967-1968. After one combat tour in Vietnam he was honorably discharged from the Army with a rank of Sergeant, Alpha 2-2.
Upon returning from his service in the Army he began work as a Millwright for Rheem in the Bay Area and soon married his wife Sonya. Michael and Sonya started their life journey together which included starting a family and ultimately moving to Shasta County in 1975 where he and Sonya reside today.
Michael was an amazing husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend. In addition, he would be adamant to express his love and gratitude for the Bros that he served with in Vietnam. To those that knew Michael well knew that he was a man of passion, integrity, and deep rooted patriotism for his Country. He was an avid outdoorsman that enjoyed hunting and fishing throughout Northern California, Oregon, and Nevada. In addition, he was a dedicated Little League and American Legion baseball coach for over 15 years here in Shasta County.
In August of 2018 Michael and his beloved wife Sonya celebrated 50 years of marriage. On 10-7-18, Michael entered eternal life. He is survived by his wife Sonya, Sons: Michael, David, Patrick and 12 grandchildren. Michael O’Leary Kirk, you will be missed more than words can describe! A celebration of Michael’s wonderful life will be 10-19-18 at McDonald’s Chapel at 10am.
