Leona McLain Fitzgerald passed away peacefully at Mercy Medical Center Redding, California on February 23, 2014.
She was born in Chicago, Illinois on February 6, 1921 to Jacob Hirsch and Bessie Greenberger Hirsch.
She graduated from California State University at Northridge in 1974 and worked as a substitute teacher until her move to Redding in 2004 where she volunteered in the Volunteer Guild Office at Mercy Medical Center until December 2013, where she received an award for volunteered service; which was and will be named after her.
At the time of her passing, she was married to John Fitzgerald for 44 years.
She was predeceased by her husband William Jay McLain and is survived by her daughter, Wendy McLain Masson and step-daughter Sandra McLain Smith. She also leaves three grandchildren amanda Stratford Jansen, Greg Smith and Kristin smith Martin, and five great grandchildren.
