"POPS"
1917 - 2012
John was born January 25, 1917 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and went to see the Lord May 4, 2012.
John came to California with his family in 1922 residing first in San Diego, and then later, Los Angeles. He married Lucile (Grammie) on November 7th, 1940. He started with his career with Pacific Bell in 1941 and retired after 31 years in 1972.
He proudly served his country, stationed in Greensboro, North Carolina during World War II, as an instructor on the Browning automatic rifle (BAR).
Upon retirement in 1972, he relocated to Shasta County to build his "House by The Side of the Road". John was an avid reader and was very interested in the origin, pronunciation, and usage of words. This naturally led to his love of poetry. He wrote his own and could often quote from his favorites, the Masters, and Don Blanding. He loved the ocean, boats, and enjoyed being on both. This was expressed in many of his writings. He loved his family very much and was a very generous, giving man. He maintained his own home and yard work into his 90s.
He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Lucile, son John Douglas Cowle (Nola), daughter Diane Rorke (Ron), 4 beautiful granddaughters, 11 great grandkids, and 5 great-great grandkids.
