She was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on April 5th, 1928 where she was adopted by Douglas and Gladys Walker at about age two. She was the youngest of two adopted daughters. they raised race horses and the cucumbers for the Heinez Pickle Company.
Jacqueline graduated Grand Rapids High School in 1946 then continued her education at Stevens College in Bloomington, Missouri where she earned her Bachelors degree.
She lead an active life. Before us kids came along she modeled for a magazine, spent a few years as a stewardess for an airline that no longer exists, and she even sang on the radio. Then while raising us kids, she managed the Commissary in Belgrade, Yugoslavia for four years. After returning stateside, she and my step dad opened a bar and restaurant in Citrus Heights, California, and in Incline Village, Nevada.
Mom also had a lot of interests which included tennis, pool, bowling, cards, reading, sewing and crafting. She was always busy doing something. I also remember that she used to sing to us all the time. Mostly songs she learned as a child at camp.
She is survived by her four children, Scott Parker Sowle; Sandy Mae Elmore; Shelley Yvonne Schaeffer; and Steven Edward Schaeffer. she is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Her birth sister Myrna DeYoung whom she met for the first time when she was 65 is also living and well in Gaylord, Michigan.
Following services there will be refreshments at Shelley Schaeffer's house, at 4038 Bechelli Lane in Redding.
