Gregory Russell Vogt, 66, passed away peacefully at home on September 22, 2024. Born on December 3, 1957, at the US Army Hospital in Bad Kreuznach, Germany, he was the cherished son of Constance Irene and Robert Leroy Vogt, Jr. In 1969, the family moved to Shasta County, where Greg graduated from Central Valley High School in 1976.
With a remarkable passion for business, Greg had a diverse career. He began by managing a jewelry store, transitioned to car sales, and became the proud owner of Brestler’s Ice Cream. He also sold carpets at a factory outlet and opened Computer Zone, establishing himself as a successful nationwide internet provider. His career culminated as the Director of IT for a company that managed public and federal libraries, where he worked for the last 17 years. In his time at Library Systems and Services, Greg’s passion for innovation helped modernize and expand services for libraries across the country. His good humor and positive attitude will be greatly missed by his co-workers and clients alike.
Greg was very talented and found joy in many activities as an avid golfer, bowler, and table tennis player. He embraced life with enthusiasm and vigor, especially playing Dungeons & Dragons with his lifelong friends. He had a deep appreciation for music and movies, loved reading and writing, attending live performances, renaissance fairs, and could often be found enjoying a good romantic comedy. Beyond his hobbies, Greg held a deep love for animals, especially his many cats and dogs, who brought him endless joy and companionship.
Greg cherished time spent with family and friends, always bringing warmth and laughter to gatherings. He was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather, and had a special gift for making those around him feel loved and included.
Greg was predeceased by his parents, Bob and Connie, and his sister, Peggy. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Reesa Vogt; his brother, Bob Vogt (Linda); his son, Josh Vogt (Stephanie); daughter, Tamashane Scotti (Fred); stepson, William Vogt; stepsons, Derek Gwaltney, Benjamin Gwaltney (Cory Ann), and Neil Gwaltney (Sara); numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nephews; and many extended family members.
With his contagious laugh and ability to embrace life to the fullest, Greg will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His radiant spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those he loved.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Stanford Cancer Research Fund for bladder cancer in memory of Greg R. Vogt.
