Audrey was born on March 8, 1935, in Pittsburgh, PA. Audrey attended Chaffey High School in Ontario, CA and went on to study Laboratory Medicine at Loma Linda University.
After graduating college, Audrey was a highly sought-after Lab Tech in the Southern California area working mostly for Kiser hospitals. Looking for something different, Audrey moved to Reno, NV and worked at Washoe Medical Center, she then decided Eureka, CA was where she wanted to be and was employed at Mad River Hospital.
In 1963 Audrey welcomed her beautiful daughter Paulette Jean. They were a dynamic duo and had many adventures together.
In 1977, Audrey met the love of her life, Jim Walund and his cute little guy Jimmy. She and Paulette instantly fell in love with both of them. On July 29, 1978, Audrey and Jim married and created their wonderful family. With this marriage Audrey also gained three beautiful daughters, Jeanie, Linda, and Kathy.
When Audrey and Jim married, she decided to leave her medical career and dedicate her life to being a fantastic and wonderful mother. Audrey excelled at propping up members of her family and supporting them through the many passions and difficulties of their lives.
In 1980 Audrey and Jim moved their family to Redding, CA to have easier access to the I-5 corridor and most importantly for the warmer weather. Audrey did not like being cold!! Living in Redding allowed Audrey and Jim to build their legendary businesses, Jim Walund Trucking and Walund Dispatch Service.
For the trucking business, Audrey managed the books, found a lot of the loads, ran the dispatch, and had a part in the hiring and firing of drivers and subhaulers. Audrey was known in the trucking industry as a small but mighty force. She demanded excellence and got it. Because of the work ethic and honesty of both Audrey and Jim, their businesses were remarkably successful and well known.
Audrey and Jim both retired in 2006. After retirement they enjoyed traveling and attending church functions and their weekly Friday dinner and game night with a group of friends.
Audrey lost Jim in 2011 and missed him dearly but she knew she’d see him when it was her turn to walk through the pearly gates.
Audrey was a huge fan of the Pittsburg Steelers and Oakland A’s. For many years she held season tickets for the A’s often taking friends and family members to the games. Audrey was a deeply religious woman and read the entire bible many times. She enjoyed attending church, soul winning and helping out in the church school. Audrey loved baking, cooking, and playing games. She is very well known for her delicious cookies! She held a weekly dominoes game on Friday nights with desert following that gave her great joy.
Audrey is survived by her children, Paulette (Rennie) Tucker, Jimmy (Melissa) Walund, Jeanie (Jim) Sanders, Linda (Roger) Warner and Kathy Cortez, ten grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, her cousin Keith (Joan) Bernard and numerous nieces, nephews and Walund in-laws.
