Vera Dillin Tyma, age 92, of Red Bluff passed away on August 27, 2024. Vera was born October 25, 1931 in Wynndel, British Columbia, Canada to a Norwegian born father, Arne Andestad, and an English born mother, Elsie Lunt Andestad. Vera’s father supported the family, including a sister Kaye bon in 1938 by raising strawberries in the summer and trapping furs in the winter. Vera dropped out of school at age sixteen and moved to Creston to work as a waitress. A couple years later two uniformed American military men would enter the restaurant, turning to a coworker she pointed out one of them and told her friend “That is the man I’m going to marry.” And she did!! Vera married William Russel Dillin on June 6, 1950 two months before her husband left for the Korean War. Upon his return Vera became a much traveled military wife with a daughter, Christine Mendenhall, being born February 23, 1952 in Roswell, New Mexico, and a second daughter, Patricia Boyles being born 3 years later in Riverside, California. After many moves Bill retired in l963 to his former home town of Copeland, Idaho. After both daughters left home Bill and Vera moved to Hayden Lake. After the birth of their first grandchild they moved to Honolulu to manage a condo. Moving back stateside at retirement they settled in Hemet, California where Vera worked to obtain her GED. Widowed at age sixty two she then married Donald Tyma at age 65, and became a citizen of the United States in l999 . She and Don moved to Oakland, Oregon to get away from the heat. There she was once more a widow and finally moved to Red Bluff to be near her oldest daughter, Christin Mendenhall. Vera held numerous jobs throughout the years but seemed to enjoy homemaking the most. Cooking and cleaning were her passions. Upon her passing she leaves behind her two daughters, a son-in-law Stephen Mendenhall, her grandchildren Dillin Mendenhall, Chandra Secor, Kevin and Andrew Boyles, along with 5 great grandchildren and one she didn’t live long enough to know about due in May 2025.
The family would like to give the assisted living home, By The River, a deep heartfelt thanks for all their time and dedication to making Vera’s final three years safe and comfortable. We would also love to thank Bristol Hospice for their compassion when families need it the most. Private interment will be at a later date.
