On August 15, 1931, Robert D. Lake, "Bob" was born to Robert S. Lake and Dorothy J. Phillips Lake at Lewis Memorial Hospital in Yosemite National Park. On December 9, 2021, Bob joined his wife Joan, in Heaven.
As a child, Bob lived in Wawona, El Portal, Mariposa and Yosemite. His family moved to 29 Palms, CA where he graduated high school and married Joan R. Lashmett Lake in 1950.
Bob returned to work in Yosemite in the mid 1950's with Joan and family. He worked as a carpenter on many Yosemite Park and Curry Company facilities, including the Village Store, the Warehouse, and the Chapel. He worked for the National Park Service as a supervisor in the Maintenance Division and eventually became Buildings, Grounds and Housing Manager.
During the 17 years in El Portal and Yosemite, Bob was active in the community. He served as a volunteer fireman and attended the Masonic Lodge, where he served as Master.
Bob and Joan transferred to Mesa Verde National Park, Colorado, in 1975 where he was Chief of Maintenance. They transferred to Lassen Volcanic National Park in 1977, where he served in the same capacity. Bob retired from Lassen in 1992, after 33 years serving the National Park Service.
Bob and Joan lived in Mineral for 2 years before Red Bluff. In 2009, they moved to Antelope, CA to be close to family. In 2019, Bob moved to Roseville, CA with daughter Kelly and her husband Paul.
Bob was an avid hunter and fisherman and felt his "home" was the outdoors. They both enjoyed traveling and fishing. They were members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Joan R. Lashmett Lake (2014). He is survived by their four children: Steve Lake (Doris) of Concord, CA, Colleen Lindsay of Lockeford, CA, Kelly Sparks-Evans (Paul) of Roseville, CA, Dan Lake (Nieves) of Elk Grove, CA, 9 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and his brother Vince Lake (Vicki).
He will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Red Bluff, CA on January 21, 2022 at 11:00 AM.
