Scott Hamilton Matlack, age 70, passed away at home suddenly and peacefully on December 14, 2024. After a Typical Saturday morning of gathering firewood, a massive cardiac arrest delivered him quickly to his Lord.
Words fail to measure this man. With transcendent capacity his heart abounded with love, bringing joy to multitudes of people. He dearly loved his wife of 35 years, Janet. She was his best friend and together they filled the air with playful laughter. He generously affirmed his love for his children and grandchildren, never getting enough time with them.
He loved mountain grandeur, scents of forests and fallen leaves, bird songs, the crash of waves, vast starry nights, the chatter of rain, bone rattling thunderclaps, and the hope of sunlight. Even more, he loved his gardens and tended to them like Eden. He taught his children to love the same.
Most of all he loved King Jesus, the treasure of his heart. Every morning he communed with his Savior in word and in prayer. He longed for the day when he would see His face. Scott would often quote 1 Corinthians 1:9-10 – “‘What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love Him.’ These things God has revealed to us through the Spirit”. No longer does Scott hope. He sees. And with swelling heart, he has finally heard the words, “Well done good and faithful servant…Enter into the joy of your Master.”
Scott was predeceased by his first wife, Nancy; and his son Colin. He is survived by his wife, Janet, his sons Fletcher (Meghan) and Dylan (Stephanie), his daughter Kelsey, his granddaughters Lily, Autumn, Sierrah, Pearl, and Izadora, and his grandson Colin. Though word cannot express the hole he has left, we are grateful to God for years full of joy with his presence.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at Petra Church, 565 Airport Rd., New Holland, PA. 17557. Visit with the family at 3PM, service at 4PM, and a reception to follow.
