Scott Thomas Heffelfinger, 75, of West Lawn, PA entered eternal rest on Tuesday, December 24, 2024, at his home surrounded by the people he loved most. Born in the quaint town of Weissport, PA, on April 11, 1949, Scott was the son of the late Fulton D. Heffelfinger and Marie J. (Ebbert) Heffelfinger. In addition to his parents, Scott was preceded in death by his half-brother Fulton J. Heffelfinger.
A proud graduate of Lehighton High School’s Class of 1967, Scott was a trailblazer on the school's first golf team. His academic journey continued at Bloomsburg University, where he graduated in 1971. Before diving into the corporate world, Scott answered the call to serve his country, enlisting in the US Navy in July 1971.He bravely served during Vietnam, earning an honorable discharge in July 1975.
Scott's professional journey was a testament to his adaptability and dedication. His career included roles such as: Director of Student Activities at Penn State Altoona, HR and Labor Relations Manager at AWI, Personnel Coordinator at Berks Heim, and finally, Director of HR at Reading Area Community College (RACC). After 14 years of distinguished service at RACC, he retired in October 2015, fully deserving his well-earned rest.
When Scott wasn’t working, he could often be found on a golf course. A proud member of the “Hole-in-One Club,” his crowning achievement came in 2019 at Galen Hall. A self-proclaimed "gearhead," Scott had a passion for tinkering with antique and classic cars, with a particular fondness for his beloved two-tone 1956 Ford Fairlane—a car he always regretted parting with. Whether cruising the open roads on a motorcycle with his wife, Priscilla, or playing slow-pitch softball for the Atonement Angels, Scott embraced life at full throttle.
Scott’s warmth and sharp wit brought light and laughter to everyone fortunate enough to cross his path. His hardworking spirit was the steady rhythm of a life well-lived, leaving an indelible mark on all who were blessed enough to have known him. While he took pride in his many accomplishments, Scott’s greatest joy was rooted in his family. A happy-go-lucky man with an infectious personality, he was a devoted husband and a father who beamed with pride whenever he spoke of his son.
Scott's spirit will be carried on by his beloved wife of 39 years, Priscilla (Moser) Heffelfinger and his son Michael Scott Heffelfinger. He also leaves behind a sister-in-law Dawn Smolens and her husband Murray; niece Becky Startzenbach and her husband RJ; great nephew JJ Startzenbach; nephew Matthew Smolens and his wife Rachel; great niece Joanie Smolens and his faithful fur baby, Roscoe.
As we gather to celebrate Scott's life, we remember a man who lived life to the fullest, who loved without condition, and who left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew him.
The family will greet relatives and friends on Wednesday, January 8, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Theo C. Auman Inc., 247 Penn St., Reading, PA 19601, followed by a celebration of life service promptly commencing at 2:00 PM, with Ken Dearstyne officiating.
