Robin Ann Lopez

Robin Ann Lopez, 55, of Reading, Pennsylvania passed away on Monday, July 18, 2022. Robin was born in Pottstown, PA on February 26, 1967, the only daughter of Randy Hartman and the late Joan (Ross) Hartman.

Robin was raised in Reading and spent most of her life there. As a teen, Robin attended Muhlenberg High School. That is until she decided to withdraw from school to focus on raising her first child, Mark. Although she had aspirations of pursuing a career in nursing, she disliked school. When she would recall her high school years, she would laugh at the pictures she would create using the bubbles on her answer sheets. But although Robin never took school seriously, she wanted her children to excel in school. She always encouraged her sons to be the best in and out of school; she is one of the main reasons for her sons' achievements and success.

Robin loved talking to anyone who would listen: family and friends, doctors and nurses, strangers at the grocery store, and even her pets. Turning a stranger into a friend is a trait that Robin shared with her mother, and as Robin aged, she would often joke that she was turning into her mother. Robin’s main topic of conversation was her sons; she was incredibly proud of each of them and she could never talk about them enough. She talked about her sons so much that whenever they joined her on appointments or errands, they would run into strangers who already knew their entire life stories. Robin’s love and pride for her four sons was obvious to anyone who knew her.

When Robin was not making friends out of strangers or talking about her sons, she was watching television. Robin’s favorite show was the daytime soap opera Days of our Lives. Robin had been watching the show every day since she was a teenager. Her sons joked that she may have been the show’s longest-running viewer. No matter where she was, whether it be at home, in the hospital, or at a family member’s house, at 1:00 PM every day Robin could be found watching Days of our Lives. Once, after being discharged from the ICU, her biggest worry was not being able to catch up on all the episodes she missed.

Other than Days of our Lives, Robin loved watching her favorite football team: the Philadelphia Eagles. Robin was so passionate about the team that she would debate with her oldest son, Mark, and her brother, Frankie, over which football team was best. In 2018, she finally earned bragging rights when the Eagles won their first Super Bowl. Until the last few years of her life, Robin never rooted for any other football team. But when her youngest son, Tito (Tomás), went to Penn State for his undergraduate degree, she began cheering for the Penn State Nittany Lions, showing her dedication to her son.

Aside from being a loving mother and a passionate football fan, Robin also loved to play games. She began by playing solitaire, but when her electronic solitaire game broke, she began playing games on her phone. Soon she became addicted to a matching game called “Juice Jam.” Despite getting frustrated with the game often, Robin played it every day and never gave up even on the most difficult levels. By the time her phone accidentally reset and she had lost all of her progress, Robin had passed a few thousand levels of “Juice Jam.” But even after she lost all of her progress on the game, she could not bring herself to start a new game. Instead, she redownloaded “Juice Jam” and tried to reach her old score.

Robin was loving, dedicated, passionate, and strong-willed. When she decided to begin or love something, she did it with her entire being, no matter what it was. So when Robin became a pet owner she cared for them as though they were her children. Her most recent dogs were Princess and Baby Groot, who Robin loved deeply until her final days. Throughout her life, however, Robin had many other animals: three dogs (Tiko, Fancy, and Chico), one cat (Baby), and two birds (Tweetie and Angel).

In addition to her pets, Robin left behind many family members who already miss her dearly, including her father, Randy Hartman, her four sons: Tomas Lopez-Parra, Jr., Luis Castañeda, Kevin Castañeda, and Mark Wehr, Jr., and her only granddaughter, Aurora Castañeda. She is also survived by her four brothers: Gary Hartman, Barry Hartman, Frankie Hartman, and George Hartman. Lastly, she leaves behind her beloved dog, Baby Groot.

Although Robin will be missed more than words can describe, it brings her family peace knowing she is finally reunited with her mother, Joan (Ross) Hartman, her aunt, Betty Olivencia “Aunt Betty,” and her favorite dog, Princess.
