Mark E. “Dewey” Kulp, 52, of Temple passed away on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at Penn State Health – St. Joseph.
He was the husband of Wanda L. (Wade) Kulp
Born in Reading, he was a son of Louise A. (Riegel) Kulp of North Carolina and the late Barry L. Kulp.
Mark was a 1986 graduate of Reading High School. In 1982 he joined the City of Reading Fire Explorer Post 290 and beginning in 1986 he was an active volunteer with Liberty Fire Company, serving as a Captain on Engine 5 beginning Dewey’s long career in public service. He was hired as a career firefighter with the City of Reading on February 1, 1993. He was an active member of the former Reading Fire Department Scuba Team and was a former Treasurer for 10 years with the Reading Firefighters Local 1803. He also worked in a part time capacity as an emergency services clinical nursing associate at Penn State Health – St. Joseph since 2016.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by a daughter, Alyssa wife of Brandon Luft of Temple. Also a brother, Jeffrey W. Kulp of Clarkton, North Carolina. Also surviving are his sisters, Ruth K. Williams of White Oak, North Carolina and Denise R. Rathman of Wernersville. He is also survived by 2 grandchildren, Logan and Aubrey Luft and several nieces and a nephew.
Services for Dewey will be held in Theo. C. Auman, Inc. Funeral Home, 247 Penn Street, Reading, Pa. 19601 on Saturday, January 16, 2021 at 1:00 pm. A viewing will be held on Friday evening, January 15, 2021 from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm and also on Saturday from 11:00am – 1:00 pm. Masks are required to be worn at all times when inside the building. There will be no exceptions given to anyone. If you don’t wear a mask, you will not be allowed to enter the funeral home. Interment will be private at the family’s convenience. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the IAFF Foundation Burn Fund, 1750 New York Avenue NW, Suite 300, Washington, D.C. 20006
**PLEASE NOTE: ALL attendees are asked to park in either the Chiarelli Parking Garage, 3rd & Court Sts., Reading or the Albert Boscov (IMAX) Parking Garage, 2nd & Washington Sts., Reading. Both parking garages will be available and free of charge both Friday evening and Saturday. On Friday evening, attendees can use the parking garages or any of the funeral home parking lots. On Saturday, because of Fire Department activity and staging, all attendees are asked to go directly to the parking garages. The parking garages are literally right next to the funeral home so they are extremely convenient for parking
