Josephine (Vaccaro) Condos, 93, of Maidencreek, PA, entered eternal rest on Sunday, December 22, 2024. Born in Reading, PA, on March 16, 1931, she was 1 of 16 children born to the late Giuseppe and Mary (Ianello) Vaccaro. Growing up in a bustling Italian-American household, Josephine learned early the value of family, resilience, and a strong sense of self.
Josephine was a spunky Italian with a personality as bold as her heritage. She carried herself with a blend of warmth, love and tenacity that endeared her to everyone she met. She loved her family fiercely and was the glue that held them together. A dedicated homemaker, she created a sanctuary for all who walked through her door, whether they were family, friends, or neighbors. Her kitchen was her domain, where she whipped up meals that were as generous as her heart. Her chocolate cake became the stuff of legend, and her sweet tooth mirrored her sweet nature.
Beyond the kitchen, Josephine loved to reminisce about "the good old days," weaving tales of her upbringing and the many adventures of her life. She had an undeniable charm, a quick wit, and a caring nature that made her easy to talk to. Even in her later years, she remained vibrant, offering heartfelt advice to her caretakers and nurses at Maidencreek Place.
Josephine shared 71 beautiful years with her husband, Nicholas E. Condos, who preceded her in death on December 27, 2022. Together, they built a legacy of love that continues through their 2 children, Michael N. Condos and his wife Lisa, and Stella M. Schira; their 3 granddaughters, Deanna Schira, Nichole Baker, and Laura Snyder; and their great-granddaughter, Brooke Snyder. She also leaves behind her brothers, John and Joseph Vaccaro; and her sisters, Millie Chipperfield, Antoinette Bauer, and Jennie Redcay, who will continue to carry her memory in their hearts.
In addition to her parents and husband, Josephine was greeted in heaven by her 9 siblings: Michael, Salvatore, Angelo, and Anthony Vaccaro; Grace Bellanca, Mary Veneziale, Micaline Etchberger, Clara Ingram, and Angeline Harris.
A viewing for Josephine will be held Thursday, January 2, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Theo C. Auman Inc., 247 Penn St., Reading, PA. A prayer service will promptly commence in the funeral home 12:00 PM. Graveside committal will immediately follow at at Berks County Memorial Gardens, 201 Evansville Rd. Fleetwood, PA 19522.
Josephine’s life was a testament to the power of love, family, and laughter. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who were blessed enough to have known her.
