Caleb George Hess, 92, of Stowe, passed away at his home on Thursday, November 13, 2014. He was the loving husband of the late Vida A. (Wagner) Hess; the couple was married in Barnesville, PA on December 21, 1946.
Born in Quakake, PA on April 19, 1922, a son of the late Jacob and Anna (Jenkins) Hess.
Caleb was employed with Stanley G. Flagg & Co, Inc. for 25 years before he retired in 1982. Other employment include working as a Milkman, working in the coal mines in Schuylkill Co. and working construction building houses and laying floors.
Caleb was an avid hunter and fisherman and was a member of the National Rifle Association.
Caleb is survived by two daughters: Sherran E. Bauer of Birdsboro and Susan V. Colon of Stowe; five grandchildren: Wendy Griffith, David Conley and his wife, Angela, Juanita Colon, Sherry Oboril and her husband, Thomas and Jacob Bauer and his wife, Victoria; sixteen great grandchildren: Jason Simmons, Brittany Griffith, Joshua Hux, Nicholas Hux, Jacob Bauer, Jr., Drake Bauer, Katie Bauer, Kayla Bauer, Michael Colon, Tiffany Aumiller, Kendra Aumiller, Russell Conley, Amelia Conley, Tabitha Conley, Gregory Oboril, and Savannah Walters.
Also surviving is a sister-in-law: Bertline “Bertie” Bachert of Lansford.
Caleb is predeceased by two daughters: Lorraine Hess and Baby Girl Hess and four sisters: Catherine (Hess) Fegley, Margaret (Hess) Gerber, Elizabeth (Hess) Skeath and Mildred (Hess) Deible.
A Funeral Service will be at 2pm on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 in Auman’s Inc. Funeral Home, 390 W. Neversink Rd., Reading, PA 19606. Family and friends will be received in the funeral home Tuesday from 1 to 2:00pm. Caleb will be laid to rest next to his wife, Vida in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reading.
