Bernard Joseph Heere, 84, of Cumru Township, passed away on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at Reading Hospital. Born in Reading, PA on August 13, 1940, he was a son to the late Adam Heere and Caroline (Baeck) Heere. In addition to his parents, Bernard was preceded in death by his brother Edward Heere.
Bernard’s life journey began with a commitment to service as he proudly served in the United States Air Force. Following his military service, he earned his BS from California Polytechnic State University - San Luis Obispo and later achieving a Master’s degree in Computer Science from the University of California - Santa Barbara.
Bernard was happiest when working with his hands, a tinkerer by nature who could fix nearly anything he set his mind to—whether it was a car, a broken television, or the earliest computers of his day. His interest in the mechanical and the digital fueled his curiosity and led him to countless hours perfecting his craft. In Oregon, Bernard discovered a love for raising exotic birds, tending to his feathered friends with the same quiet dedication that marked so much of his life.
Though Bernard was a reserved man, those who knew him appreciated his dependable, quiet, and steady nature. He will be deeply missed by all fortunate enough to have known him.
Bernard's spirit will be carried on by his son Troy Heere and his daughter Tammy Heere. He also leaves behind his 4 siblings Gerard Heere, Leonard Heere, Marcia Heere and Theresa Smith to cherish his memory.
To honor Bernard’s life, a graveside service will be held on Friday, November 8, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Gethsemane Cemetery, 3139 Kutztown Rd., Reading, PA 19605. Attendees are kindly asked to gather at the cemetery entrance by 12:45 PM.
