Ronald George Albright, age 97 of Rootstown, passed away Monday, May 9, 2022. Ronald was a loving, faithful husband, father and grandfather. But even more, he was a man of deep faith and love for God. He was truly a man of prayer and his love for God guided him throughout his life. Ron was married on August 21, 1948 to Fern K. Albright (Hartman) by his late brother in law Reverend Arthur Hartman at St. Martha Church. Ron cherished every moment he spent together with the love of his life and he is now reunited with his dearly beloved Fern who passed away April 21, 2022.
Ronald was born February 17, 1925, in Johnstown, Pa to parents Norbert and Adelaide (Johns) Albright. He graduated from Akron North High School where he excelled at football and then enlisted in the US Army. He proudly served in the 404th Field Artillery Group under General George Patton across Europe in WWII. Ron was awarded 4 bronze service stars along with WWII victory medal. A few years ago Ron went on an Honor Flight to Washington D.C. for recognition of his service.
In 1958 Ron and Fern moved to Rootstown and enjoyed many years in the community while raising nine children. Ron was a caring father who made sure that each child received special kindness. He was a Boy Scout leader, Little League coach, and PTA member as well.
Ron was a devoted member of St. Peter of the Fields Parish. He helped build the church hall, sang in the choir, and was a Eucharistic minister at Robinson Memorial Hospital for over 25 years. Ron was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and served as Grand Knight. Also he was active in the Young at Heart, Catholic War Veterans and a lifetime member of the American Legion.
Ron retired from East Ohio Gas in 1984 as a customer service supervisor. He enjoyed fishing and camping with family and friends. Ron especially enjoyed traveling, visiting many international destinations as well as every state except Hawaii. However, his family always remained most important to him.
Ron is survived by children Beverly Goethals, Linda Trautman, Dennis (Joanne) Albright, Eileen (Randy) Coleman, Larry (Lucille) Albright, Mary (Roy) West, Kathleen (Mark) Banas, James Albright (Karlo) and Renee` (Richard) Loftin, his beloved 19 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild, as well as his sisters Patricia Valle and Norma Lee Hastler.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Fern, his brother Dan Albright, and his sister Darlene Trent, son in laws Michael Goethals and Craig Trautman.
Ron’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the entire staff of Vista Veranda and Traditions Hospice for their compassionate care given to Ron and his family.
This honest and caring man, who truly cared about others will be sadly missed and fondly remembered.
Friends and family will be received Monday, May 16, 2022, from 10:00 – 11:00 AM at St. Peter of the Fields Catholic Church, 3487 Old Forge Rd, Rootstown, OH 44272, with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Reverend Zachary Coulter at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at St. Peter of the Fields Cemetery with full military honors.
