Bob was born May 18, 1928 in Kent to Robert and Gladys (Englehart) Cherry. He graduated from the Ravenna Township School in 1946 and served in the US Navy in the Pacific for 2 years. He retired in 1985 from Ohio Bell/AT&T after 38 years of service starting as a lineman and moving up to Manager of Special Services for the Akron/Canton/Youngstown region. After his retirement he served as a Ravenna Township Trustee for 16 years. Bob and his late wife, Joyce were active members of the First Christian Church in Ravenna where Bob was a Trustee for many years. He enjoyed playing poker with his friends, traveling and collecting guns. At 91, Bob moved from his longtime home in Ravenna to Storypoint in southwest Ohio where he made many new friends.
Bob was married to Joyce (Knapp) for 71 years and together they created a loving family and cherished memories. He is survived by loving daughters Diane Kinner and Beth Ann Cherry and grandson Jeff (Rachel) Kinner as well as his adored dog, Holly. Bob cherished his relationships with nieces DeNiece Cherry, Darlene (Andy) Selesnik, and Barbara (Sam) Grispino and great nephew Dominic Grispino as well as his cousins from the Cherry family.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Joyce, his parents, his brothers John (Jack) and Don Cherry and in-laws Connie Cherry and Gordon and Eileen Knapp.
Family and friends will be received Saturday, February 25, 2023, from 10:00 - 11:30 AM with a memorial service officiated by Pastor Laurie Metzko at 11:30 AM at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna. Inurnment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery with full military honors. After the burial, there will be reception and time of fellowship at the First Christian Church, 6251 Gladys St., Ravenna, OH 44266.
