Larry was a very active member of the Ravenna Lions Club for over thirty years. His desire to help others was honored by receiving the Lions Club International Foundation Melvin Jones Fellow for Dedicated Humanitarian Services.
Larry enjoyed being very careful and exact in his approach to many things in life. This helped guide him to a successful 37 year career in the Bridgestone Firestone Synthetic Rubber Research Laboratory in Akron, Ohio.
Larry served on active duty as a member of the USAF Security Service from 1962 to 1966 in Onna Point, Okinawa and Zweibrucken, Germany.
In addition to his parents Harriet (Sheffield) and Meade Hurley, and his sister Susan Tackett, Larry is preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Franziska (Bucher) Hurley.
Franzi and Larry were lucky enough to meet back in 1965 during an evening of ballroom dancing in the Zweibrucken Festhalle in Germany. Their three sons who are grateful for that evening are Stefan (Julie) Hurley, Christopher Hurley and Jon (Sharon) Hurley. Larry’s favorite passion in life was to help raise his grandchildren Nicholas, Kyle, Victoria, Carson, Taylor and Alex.
His wishes for cremation are being honored. Friends and family will be received Monday, July 24, 2023, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna.
