He was born August 24th, 1961, in Akron, Ohio, to parents Henry and Emma Jean (Kelley) Scarcella. Joe attended Ellet High School, graduated from Grace College, and received an MBA from Ball State University. He went on to a distinguished career mostly as a financial controller or CFO. He began his profession working in Stanford, Connecticut, and moved back to Ohio to work at Wagler Homes. Then went on to work at Buckingham, Doolittle & Burroughs, Rotezel & Andress, and finally retired from SD Myers/Good Place Holdings company.
Joe attended the Chapel in downtown Akron, then the Green Chapel campus when it opened. He was a trustee involved in prayer partners and served in Christian Service Brigade (CSB). He recently became an active member at Riverwood Chapel when he moved to the Ravenna area. Another passion in Joe’s life was Stony Glen Camp. He served at summer camp and on the board as a member, treasurer and most recently board president. He also volunteered with their Tuesday Guys group to help with the maintenance of the camp.
Above all, Joe loved his family and friends. He looked forward to his monthly euchre night with the guys and going hiking and biking with his family. He cherished annual family vacations to the Outer Banks and Edisto Island in the Carolinas and adored his grandkids.
Joe is survived by his beloved wife Lori (Gaerte) Scarcella, whom he married May 25th, 1985. He is also survived by his children: Jesse (Anne), Sara, Timothy (Caitlin), and Jonah (Shelby); his grandchildren: Leia, Naomi, Adalia, Eleazar, Emma, and Noah; as well as his sister Cathy Hoffman. He also leaves behind his father and mother-in-law Kenneth and Karen Gaerte, his brother-in-law Doug (Phyllis) Gaerte, along with many other loving extended family members.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law David Hoffman.
Friends and family will be received Sunday, September 24th, 2023, from 1:00 – 4:00 PM at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna Ohio. A Worship Service will be held on Monday, September 25th, 2023, at 6:00 PM at Riverwood Chapel, 1407 Fairchild Ave., Kent, Ohio. Private interment will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery in Ravenna, Ohio.
