Joseph V. Mendiola

“Uncle Joe” was a father to all of his nieces and nephews. His family has fond memories of trips to the Cleveland Indian baseball games, a ride on Space Mountain at Disneyland, bouncing on his knee, and his ability to choose just the right Christmas gift for everyone. He made everyone feel like they were special. He was often the videographer for family gatherings, preserving a lifetime of memories.

Joseph provided support and encouragement to anyone in the family facing a challenging situation.

He retired from Goodyear as an engineer and served in the army in Japan during the occupation. Joseph was a devoted member of Immaculate Conception Parish. He attended Ohio University and in his younger years, he enjoyed golfing and was an avid hometown sports fan including the Indians, Ohio State, and the Browns. He never asked for much in life but liked a nice car and a cigar. He would often be seen at Bar 10 in the morning having coffee with friends. He was a real Ravenna guy.

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings: John J. Mendiola, Cecilia Mendiola, Nicholas J. Mendiola, Nellie Kentris, Mary J. Rock, and Daniel Mendiola, his nephews Larry Mendiola and Jeffery Rock.

He is survived by his nieces and nephews: David (Diane) Rock, Frank (Janell) Rock, Kathy (Mark) Frazier, Michael Mendiola, Johnny Mendiola, Joyce (Randy) Hedrick, Janet Mendiola, Betty (Mike) Heisler, Sue (Steve) Fosnight, Karen Stein, James Mendiola, Susan (Greg) Hensley, and Andria Francechi, as well as generations of loving great nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Reverend William Kraynak on Tuesday, January 10, 2017, at 10:00 AM at Immaculate Conception Church. Private entombment will take place at St. Mary Cemetery.
