John Franklin Swigart Jr., age 88 of Palmyra, passed away Saturday, July 9, 2022, with his beloved wife by his side.
Frank was born September 26, 1933, in Kent, Ohio, to parents Alice (Rudder) and John Franklin Swigart Sr. He graduated from Kent Roosevelt High School in 1950 and then proudly served in the US Army.
Frank worked several years in excavating for Harry Miller Excavating in Suffield and Beaver Excavating in Canton. He then went to work for ODOT, retiring as a transportation superintendent in 2000. Frank was a member of Liberty Bible Church in Atwater and Rockton Lodge F&AM in Kent.
Frank was a longtime volunteer at Robinson Memorial Hospital. He took great meticulous care while tending to his flower gardens. Frank was an avid sports fan who enjoyed traveling to attend Marshall University football games and watching the Green Bay Packers. Most of all, Frank cherished the time he spent with family and friends.
Frank is survived by his wife Ruby (Duncan) Swigart, who he married July 13, 1979, and the two formed an inseparable bond. He is also survived by his children: Kenneth (Anne) Swigart, Mary Alice Swigart, Danny (Lorena) Meadows, Kenneth (Penny) Meadows, Kevin (Dawn) Meadows, Leisa (Terry) Rhodes, and Jennifer Filmore, as well as his 25 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents, his sons John Franklin Swigart III and Joey Meadows, and his brother Paul Swigart.
Friends and family will be received Thursday, July 14, 2022, from 6-8 PM at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E., Main St., Ravenna, where funeral services will be officiated by Pastor Paul Phillips on Friday at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at West Cemetery in Palmyra Township with full military honors.
