Edward “Ed” John Vojtko, of Hudson, Ohio passed away peacefully at home on Monday, October 16, 2023. His God-given talent was playing the piano, on which there are 88 keys, the same age he was when he passed.
Ed was born in Akron, Ohio on December 22, 1934, to parents Peter J. and Mary A. (Wargo) Vojtko. He earned a degree in music from the University of Akron and is a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during the Korean War/Conflict. Ed co-owned ABC music store on Lovers Lane where he met his beloved wife, Martha Rose (Knapp), of 50 years. He retired from the Cuyahoga Falls School District after 25 years as a band teacher. Ed also worked at a bank in his hometown for about a decade, played the keyboard in numerous bands for a variety of events over the years, and was the organist at First Church of Christ Scientist in Hudson for 30-plus years.
In his spare time, Ed enjoyed golfing, going to bingo, playing the piano, participating in jazz jam sessions, and watching Cleveland sports on television, (he enjoyed most of these hobbies with his wife, Martha). In his younger years, he was an avid bowler and enjoyed fishing with his brothers. However, his favorite thing to do was to spend time at home with his family.
Ed is survived by his children Mary Vojtko, Joe (Julie) Vojtko, and Janie (Jon) Sanders. Left also to cherish his memory are his grandchildren Katy Kinnan, Jack and Sarah Vojtko, and Freddy, Tommy, and Franky Sanders. He also leaves his brother George Vojtko and his sister-in-law Jane (John) Vojtko. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Martha, and his brother John Vojtko.
A mass of Christian Burial, celebrated by Fr. Zachary Coulter, will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 23rd, 2023, at St. Joseph Church, 2643 Waterloo Rd., Mogadore, Ohio 44260 (Randolph Township). Interment with full military honors will immediately follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. A reception at the K of C Hall, adjacent to the church, will follow the burial. All are welcome.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations being sent, in Ed's name, to Hudson EMS (40 S. Oviatt St., Hudson, Ohio 44236) or to the Gardens of Western Reserve Home Care & Hospice (3792 State Road, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio 44223).
