On Friday, September 9, 2022, at the age of 93, Duane Edgar Baker went home to dwell in the house of the Lord forever. He has been joyfully reunited with his son, Duane Edgar Baker, Jr, sister, Margery Foust and parents Marl and Anna (Schwenk) Baker.
Duane was born in Ravenna to Marl and Anna Baker. He grew up in Charlestown Township and graduated in a class of five from Charlestown High School. He attended Kent State University and was a member of the Portage County Sherriff’s Department and the Ohio National Guard. Duane and his father Marl owned Baker & Son Construction Company for over 30 years.
Duane is survived by the greatest joys in his life: Suzan (Davis), his wife of 71 years, six children: Davis and Kathryn (Rinier) Baker, Dennis Baker, Dale and Phyllis (Cook) Baker, Peggy and Carl Goodholm, Duane C and Denise (Anderson) Baker, Douglas and Karen (Maletich) Baker, fifteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren
Duane was a long-time resident of Dunnellon, Florida and Charlestown Township, Ohio. He was a passionate member of the church everywhere he went and displayed his servant’s heart through a lifetime of volunteering for the American Red Cross and numerous other organizations. He was an avid supporter of high school sports and wholehearted believed every child needed to be involved.
In addition, Duane was known for his love of laughter and making others laugh, his sense of fairness and support of all people, his lifelong love of learning and teaching and his ability to use his hands and computer to translate creative thoughts into practical inventions.
A memorial service will be held at the Charlestown Township Cemetery in Ravenna, Ohio on Friday, September 30, 2022, at 1 p.m.
