Our beloved sister, Cheryl Ann Chlysta, 62, passed into God's hands on January 21, 2022. Cheryl was born to Russell and Elizabeth (nee Barilla) Chlysta on February 7, 1959. She loved growing up on the family farm in Ravenna Township where she helped with the animals, the gardening, and the many other chores that needed done.
Cheryl was a 1977 graduate of Ravenna High School, where she was active in the choir and was an accomplished pianist. She then earned a bachelor's degree in history and a master's in library science from Kent State University. Cheryl worked for 32 years as a librarian and branch manager in public library systems throughout Ohio, including Columbus, Portage County, and Akron. Always patient, gentle, and helpful, Cheryl especially enjoyed working with children who frequented the libraries. After retiring as a librarian, she began a second career at UH Portage in patient registration, where she rarely declined a shift even on a scheduled day off.
Cheryl's interests included reading, sewing, music and concerts of all genres, Nancy Drew books, David Cassidy, old TV shows, and collecting pop culture items. (Her PEZ dispenser collection was epic!) She read anything and everything. When library patrons were curious about a topic, Cheryl could most likely speak on it. She was keenly intelligent, and her thirst for knowledge was never ending.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by brother Russell Paul Chlysta of Michigan, brother and sister-in-law John and Sherry Chlysta of Hudson, and sister Susan Elizabeth Chlysta of Ravenna Township. Cheryl also leaves her precious nieces and nephews, Katherine Elizabeth, Nathan Russell, and Matthew Lane Chlysta, all of Hudson. Also surviving her are her Aunt Susan Talpas of Parma and Uncle Michael Barilla of Georgia, as well as many cousins and friends.
Friends and family will be received Thursday, January 27, 2022, from 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM at Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home in Ravenna, with funeral services officiated by Chaplain Bill Wisniewski at 12:30 PM. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please send flowers to someone you love. Cheryl would also be honored by donations to Reed Memorial Library, 167 East Main Street, Ravenna, OH 44226. Condolences and memories may be shared at www.wood-kortright-borkoski.com.
