From the Continent of Africa, to the Island of the Bahamas, to the shores of America, and the state of Georgia, Loran H. Saunders and Grace Saunders bore five amazing children. Hattie Worley, Loran Harrington Saunders Jr., Cassandra Yvonne Saunders, Gloria Jean Lott, & Herbert Harrington Saunders. These Roots are strong and deep. Today’s Celebration of Life is in honor of one of those amazing spiritual fruit. “Ms. Cassandra Yvonne Saunders”. This beautiful lady was and is, a source of true leadership, around the concept of unwavering love and support for family, our sacred children and our elderly. She has always exemplified an effortless constitution of unconditional love, agape love and genuine compassion. If you ever had the privileged to enter her home, you could always get a nourishing meal, and the children were given full access to her home as a play area, and nurturing environment. She made you feel like you were the most important person on the face of the earth. Her love for laughter, African American movies, and children who dared to dream was always at the forefront. If you really knew Cassandra, affectionately known as “Sistah”, you knew that she was so kind, and so loving, and that she’d willfully tolerate those who weren’t as spiritually mature. She did so, because she in fact was always aware of the greater good. Love, love and yet again love. She was a true example of an actual angel walking the earth. She now resides with the ancestors. This is a sacred space of which she will still guides, directs and supports her loving family. If you ever saw Sistah, Hattie and Donnie do their sister thing, you were in content and unceasing awe and disbelief. This was true love in action. She and her sisters nurtured children who graduated with Masters degrees, and doctors, those who studied abroad, and those who graduated with Bachelor’s degrees while dealing with disabilities. They nurtured Community organizers, social workers, Clinical Therapist, Incredible Cooks, creative artist, military service men and woman and the list goes on. The Roots are really strong and deep! What she and they nurtured most, was that we are a great people! Each and every offspring of the Saunders, Lott, Worley Tree knows that clearly and vividly! She is survived by: Her children (4 loving sons and 1 loving daughter): Kem Saunders, Dylce Worley-Wright, Oliver Worley Jr., Harrington Saunders & Paris Saunders. She’s the aunt of: Allen, Tina, Stephanie, Arnold, Yolanda, Steve, Diresa, Khalilah and Jasmine, Lamar and Brandon, LaToya, Herbert Jr., Loran, Catrese and Carmen and her beautiful grandchildren: Jarrell, Deonte, Ricky, Brittney, Victor, Morgan, Johnny, Loran, Paris and Rodney, Malik, Darian, Darshan, Kemani, Kem/Zion, Djara, Natalie and London and a host great grandchildren, great nieces and nephews.
The lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures:
He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul:
He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his names’s sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies:
Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life:
And I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
She loved and enjoyed several things. She loved elephants because of their gentle constitution and their firm foundation. She loved the game of Keno, because of the familial interaction and laughter that was always a part of the game. She loved the blues, because this music gave vivid description of black love, black struggle, and black resilience. She loved sisterhood, because there are so many opportunities to evolve the sibling relationship into to something much greater.
