Carol L. MacLean

Carol started accompanying her Junior Choir when she was in the fourth grade. She took tap dancing and acrobatics. Her mother always said, “Carol, you’ve got to learn to say No!”

Carol attended Louisville High School where she accompanied the choir, was awarded in National Quill and Scroll, received the Arion Music award, was a member of National Honor Society, participated in many clubs and held offices as well as being the President of State Brethren Youth.

Carol attended Ashland College where she accompanied the choir, was a cheerleader, became President of the Campus Women’s Council, President of the National Girls Organization of the Brethren Church, and National Secretary of the Brethren Church Youth Board. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree, graduating with majors in Psychology and Sociology and minored in Art and Bible.

Carol worked with juvenile offenders as a Social Worker at the Columbus Bureau of Juvenile Research. She then continued her education at Kent State, earning a Bachelor of Science degree and in 1962, began teaching Kindergarten, First, and Third grades. She retired from Crestwood School District after 35 years of teaching.

Carol was a longtime member of the Church of the Brethren where she played organ and piano. She loved art, music, writing poetry, rock and mineral collecting, bird watching, camping, and nature lore - which included talking to dogs - she barks!

Carol was preceded in death by her parents Louis and Ruth Snyder, sister Avonne Eusa, and son Scott MacLean.

Carol is survived by her sons Kirk (Mary) MacLean and Brett (Brenda) MacLean, grandchildren Matt (Kathy), Edward (Nan), Cory (Renee), Chelsea, Amanda (Travis), Kalyn, Kyle (Tara), nieces, nephews, and an extended family of grandchildren and great-grandchildren too numerous to list, but all loved by Grandma Carol.

Carol donated her body to the College of Medicine at NEOMED to help advance medical education and research, and to improve patient care. A Celebration of Life will take place on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at 2:00 PM officiated by Reverend Julie Blake Fisher at Christ Episcopal Church, 118 S. Mantua St., Kent.
