He was born December 31, 1932, in Akron, Ohio, to parents Joseph Forrest and Elizabeth Esther (Cutter) Bennett. Carl was a devoted member of the Palmyra United Methodist Church, the Deerfield Masonic Lodge, and Order of the Eastern Star Palmy Chapter. He proudly served his country as a member of the US Naval Air Corps during the Korean War, and later joined the American Legion in Sebring.
Carl retired from the Chrysler Twinsburg Plant after 31 years of service, but he never quit being an engineer. He was a jack-of-all-trades and had a passion for education, especially science and astronomy. Carl was recently enrolled in online college astronomy courses. His other interests included sports and music. Carl was a lifelong fan of the Buckeyes, Indians, and Browns. He also enjoyed playing the guitar and singing with the church choir, as well as his family.
Carl was able to celebrate 61 years of marriage to the love of his life on the day he passed away. He is survived by his wife Loretta (Loach) Bennett, and their children: Christina (Bill) Bennett Wilson, Cynthia (Stephen) Bennett-Brown, Randall (Karen) Bennett, Catherine (Carlo) Cornacchione, and Joseph (Amy) Bennett. Carl’s memory will also be cherished by his eleven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and his sister Mildred Cafcules. In addition to his parents, Carl was preceded in death by his sister Margaret Norton and his brother Charles Bennett.
Friends will be received Monday, August 4, 2014, from 11:00 AM until the 1:00 PM funeral service at the Palmyra United Methodist Church, 3698 State Route 225, Diamond, Ohio 44412, with Pastor Donald Booth officiating. Interment will follow with military honors at West Cemetery in Palmyra Township.
