William Montelle Loyd Jr.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Gladys (Happy) Loyd. He is survived by four children, William M. Loyd, III, Steve Loyd, Susan Loyd Owenby and husband, Phil Owenby, and Jimmy Loyd and wife, Mary Beth Loyd. Affectionately know by his family and friends as “Bubba”, he was a devoted father to his four children and proud grandfather of nine grandchildren, Molly Loyd, Carley Loyd, Ashley Loyd Fox and husband Joe, Lindsay Loyd, Shelby Loyd, Jason Owenby and wife Whitney, Ryan Owenby and wife Noelle, Meredith Owenby Mawyer and husband Todd, Natalie Loyd and one great grandchild, Reed Fox.

He was a graduate of the University of Mississippi and served in the U.S. Navy. He retired after 40 years of service to AT&T in 1986 to pursue his love of golf and fellowship with friends. The family wishes to thank the staff and friends at Gayton Terrace Retirement Community in Richmond, Virginia for the wonderful care and friendship throughout the past nine months.

The family will receive friends on Friday, December 20, 2013 from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home at 1701 Millbrook Road in Raleigh, NC followed by a memorial service. A private internment will be at Pine Forest Memorial Garden.
