William Earl Carter, Jr., 67, died Friday night, March 25, in Raleigh, N.C. from a malignant brain tumor which he had been fiercely fighting since August 15, 2000. He was born on October 14, 1943 in High Point, N. C.
After graduation from High Point University in 1966, he attained his CPA accreditation in 1971. Bill worked for 38 years with the NC Utilities Commission, Public Staff, the last several years as Director of Accounting.
Bill was a loving, generous, and supportive husband, and a kind and dependable friend. He had a wonderful dry sense of humor and loved to laugh. He was treasurer of his church, North Ridge Alliance, for five years and a 7-year graduate of Bible Study Fellowship. He was always willing and able to aid those in need; he never turned down anyone who asked for his help.
Bill is predeceased by his mother, Mary Edith Carter and his father, William E. Carter. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Nancy McCall Carter, two brothers, James Carter (Sammie) of Pensacola, Florida, and Richard Carter (Cindy), of Houston, Texas. He is also survived by an “adopted” brother, Ray Smith (Alice), of Raleigh, N.C., several cousins, Gloria Hatchel, Janice Moon, Sandy Weakley and Ronnie Jester, and many nieces and nephews. Other family members include Jan Dubose( Bobby)of Sumter, S.C., Nicky Casteen (Tony), of Wilmington, N.C., Sam McCall(Lynn) of Wilmington, N.C., Joyce McCall of Troy, N.C., and Shahab Shammas and Timothy Bone, of Raleigh and Washington, D.C. respectively. Bill had many loving friends and brothers and sisters in the Lord who are also members of his surviving family.
Bill’s family would like to thank the staff at the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke, the OTC nurses and personnel there, the Hospice of Wake County staff, the nurses of Comforcare in Raleigh, and, as always, our church family at North Ridge Alliance Church. Bill was a Christian and loved the Lord. The Scripture verses chosen by his wife that best characterize his life are those found in I Corinthians 13:4-5, 7: “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
” Ps. 116: 15 “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.”
His family will receive friends on Monday, March 28, from 6:00-8:00 pm at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 E. Millbrook Rd., Raleigh, NC. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, March 29, at 10:00 am at North Ridge Alliance Church, 7601 Falls of Neuse Rd., Raleigh, NC. Interment will be Tuesday at 3:00 pm in Troy, NC.
