Wayland Duke McGlohon Jr of Greenville, NC passed away January 13, 2020 at the age of 79 after a long battle with Parkinson’s. Wayland was born on March 23, 1940 and was raised in Ayden, NC. He attended NCSU where he fell in love with Florence Overton Scott and married her on September 29, 1961. They raised three daughters, Elizabeth, Kimberly and Melinda. Wayland was in the banking industry in Raleigh for many years. He left banking and moved to Greenville to pursue his passion for boating. He finished his career in the insurance business which suited his personality well. Wayland spent many summers at their river cottage in Bayview, NC where he really enjoyed time with family and friends.
Wayland enjoyed the workmanship of furniture building and guns in his spare time, as well as sitting peacefully and listening to music. His home was furnished with beautiful mahogany pieces that he made by hand. It was also full of the latest gun catalogs and reloading equipment. He was a Life Member and past Treasurer at the Pitt County Wildlife Club where he enjoyed spending time with good friends and target shooting. Wayland was an amazing husband, father and friend. He was a compassionate soul and touched all parts of life with patience and positivity.
Wayland was preceded in death by his parents, Wayland Duke McGlohon and Maggie Campbell McGlohon, and by his cherished grandson, William Joseph Schweibinz.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Florence Scott McGlohon; his children, Elizabeth McGlohon Drake and Kimberly McGlohon Schweibinz; his grandchildren, Kyra Drake Dolifka and husband Randall, Leah Nicole Schweibinz, and Margaret Drake; his brothers, Artie McGlohon and wife Jill, and David McGlohon and wife Maxie; his special longtime friend Tracy Holder; and many dear relatives and friends.
At Wayland’s request there will be no Memorial Service. Close friends and family will gather to celebrate his life.
