Tom was a great family man and a loving husband to his wife, Gail of 56 ½ years until her death on September 27, 2012. He was a loving and caring father to his three sons he leaves behind, T. Lyon Blalock (Casey), Lee (the late Angela) Blalock and William Blalock (Letty); of Raleigh, nine grandchildren; nine great grandchildren that he adored; and by his special friend: Dot Thomason.
Tom was born on July 15, 1935 in Oxford, NC to parents, Thomas L. Blalock, Sr and Mary Norman Mitchell. He graduated from Oxford High School in 1953 and then attended NCSU. After college he worked at Chemdeye Plant; FDC Cline Paving Co. Then he joined the Military where he was active for two years. After his duty was over, he went back to work with FDC Cline. Tom moved to Raleigh in 1960 and began working for TA Loving Co. until 1968 when he and Gail formed Blalock Paving, Inc. until he sold the business in 2005.
Tom and Gail loved to dance and travel. They were a member of the 101 Dance Club. He was very active at Hayes Barton UMC and was a member of the Wesleyan Fellowship Sunday School Class, UMM, Few Good Men, and Head Usher. Tom served as chairperson of all the committees at church other than the Finance (which he was a member of). He also served on many building committee’s at Hayes Barton. He was a former Lion’s Club Member and a member of The National Construction Paving Organization and served on the Board at Louisburg College.
He enjoyed doing woodworking, but mostly he loved to help former employees and helping others. Tom was a man who liked to do things in a quiet manner, never bragging about things he did or people he helped. He will be remembered by his kind heart by those he left behind. If you knew Tom, you knew he never met a stranger.
Tom left a legacy to his family in a book titled “Relive the Dream,” which was a recap of his years growing up and all through his life. A book he has shared with many people.
