Ruth Sawyer Doby

She was born in Lillington, NC on November 5, 1931, the daughter of the late Sudie Beatrice Marshburn Sawyer and James Authur Sawyer.

After graduating high school and nursing school, she spent the next 35 years working at Mary Elizabeth, Rex and Raleigh Community Hospitals until retirement. After retiring, she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and her hobbies.

Ruth is preceded in death by her parents, husband Charles S. Doby, eldest son Robert S. Doby, brother James Sawyer, sister Iris Fletcher, brother-in-laws Harold Flowers, Sr. and T.V. Harris.

She is survived by her two sons, Timothy S. Doby (Susan), and Charles S. Doby (Aulya “Sita”), daughter-in-law Saundra Doby, three grandchildren Charles “Chad” Doby, Joshua Doby, and Lindsay Miles (Brandon), and great granddaughter, Blair McKinzie Miles due May 2019. Sisters Agnes Flowers, Barbara Morgan, Faye Garbina, sister-in-laws Patricia Sawyer and Kathleen Harris, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 17, 2019 from 1:00-2:00pm at Brown Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 E. Millbrook Rd, Raleigh, NC.

A Graveside service will be held for immediate family members the same day at 3:00pm at Raleigh Memorial Park.
