Ronald Lee Davis, 73, passed away on Wednesday, September 09, 2015 at the Durham Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center Hospice Unit. He was born on January 5, 1942 in New Iberia, LA to the late Earl Joseph Davis and Irby Scroggs Davis. He was preceded in death by his brother, Earl Joseph Davis, Jr. and sister, Elva Moore.
Earning rank of Captain in the United States Marine Corps, Ron served 3 years on active duty, including a tour in Vietnam, and 5 years in the active reserves. As a former resident of New Iberia, he was a graduate of St. Peter’s College (Catholic High) and University of Southwestern Louisiana (Un. Of Louisiana at Lafayette), co-owner of Davis Motors, Boys Team Head Coach at Davis School of Gymnastics and a member of Cajun Kiwanis Club. After moving to Raleigh, he worked in the insurance and automobile industries. A former member of the North Carolina Roadrunners Club, he became an active member of the Breakfast Walking Group when running was no longer an option.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Patricia Sprenkle Davis, daughters, Tanya Bannon (James) of Blue Hill, ME and Tasha Yun of Raleigh; son, Ronald Lee Davis, Jr. (Kristin) of North Attleboro, MA; granddaughters’ father, Jesse Yun of Raleigh; grandchildren, Allie, Josie and Shelby Yun, Clementine and Guthrie Bannon, Jordan and Connor Davis; sisters, Shirley Porter and Joe Norton (Charles) of New Iberia, LA; and faithful dog, Gumbo Davis of Raleigh and many nieces and nephews.
There will be a visitation at 1:00 Tuesday, September 15, 2015, followed by a memorial mass in the chapel at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 11401 Leesville Rd., Raleigh, NC, at 2:00pm, after which military honors will be presented and a reception held in St. Francis of Assisi Founders Hall.
