Bob was born on August 21, 1914 in Chicago, IL, the youngest child of the late Henry and Leah Rothstein. He and his brothers co-owned the Lighthouse Restaurant in Flint, MI, and later they founded NC based Southeastern Radio Supply, which became Southeastern Electronics, and Southeastern Sight & Sound. He was a World War II veteran. He was a past president of both Temple Beth Or and Beth Meyer Synagogue, and also a member of Chabad of Cary, B'nai B’rith, the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, and the Rotary Club of Cary.
Most of all, Bob loved people and he loved his family. He was devoted to his wife, Marion, of nearly 65 years, who precedes him in death. He was extremely close to his two brothers, Al and Phil, and his two sisters, Ruth and Sari, who also precede him in death. Robert Rothstein was an avid Wolfpack fan attending basketball games for over 65 years.
He is survived by his four children and their spouses, Betina and Barry Weinstein of Cary, Howard and Nettie Rothstein of Dunwoody, GA, Phyllis and Stuart Schwartz of Palmerston North, New Zealand, and Lee and Gail Rothstein of Raleigh; seven grandchildren and spouses, Sarah Ellen and Jonathan Levine of Birmingham, AL, Henry Weinstein of Cary, George Weinstein and Lesley Looper of Morrisville, Julie Schwartz of Waltham, MA, Philip and Heather Weinstein of Apex, David Schwartz of Palmerston North, New Zealand, and Sara Rothstein of Raleigh; and five great grandchildren, Rose Levine, Tess Levine, Micah Levine, Talia Weinstein, and Evan Weinstein. He was proud to be the patriarch of a large family.
Graveside services will take place at 2 o'clock on Sunday, December, 13, at the Raleigh Hebrew Cemetery,450 N. State Street, Raleigh, with Rabbi Yisroel Cotlar officiating. Shiva Minyanim will take place at the Rothstein home, beginning on Sunday, December 13 and continuing through Thursday, December 17 at 7:30 pm each evening. Friends and family will be welcome to visit at the home, 209 Kelso Ct., Cary, on Saturday, December 12 from 2 pm to 5 pm. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Chabad of Cary, the Rothstein Endowment Fund at Beth Meyer Synagogue, or to a charity of your choosing.
