Born June 5, 1929, Robert Keith Glover was the youngest of six children born to the late Stephen Darden and Eula Griffin Glover. He grew up on the family farm in eastern North Carolina and loved working in his garden the rest of his years.
Keith attended Duke University for both his undergraduate degree in English and for Divinity School. He also later received a Masters from the New York Theological Seminary. Always a visionary, he wrote his thesis in 1968 on the applications for the computer in the church in assisting youth in the city in finding meaningful employment.
Although Keith lived most of his life in North Carolina, he did also work for the United Methodist conference in both Chicago and New York. In North Carolina, Keith was involved with the conference camping program. One of his proudest achievements was the development and implementation of a camp in the 1970’s for individuals on the Autism Spectrum. He remained a champion of inclusion and education throughout his life.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Keith is survived by his wife Mieke Kerkstra, daughter Teresa Rutherford, grand daughters Kelly Rutherford and Leigh Harns, great grand daughters Sophia and Lilly Harns and step daughters Sandy Burns and Janet Damiani. Keith was preceded in death by his first wife Sarah Frances Hennessee and his siblings Freddy, Billy and Dewey Glover, Marie Edwards and Janie Finch.
If you knew Keith, you knew his smile, you knew his laugh, and you knew his love of a good (or bad) joke. You also know that he knew no strangers, only friends he had not yet met.
In lieu of flowers. Donations may be made to: Robert Keith Glover Donor Advised Fund, United Methodist Foundation, 700 Waterfield Ridge Place, Garner, NC 27529.
