Before his retirement in December of 2021, Bob worked as the Executive Director of the NC State Board of CPA Examiners. He served the Board for over 35 years and his love for his work is known across the entire United States. His job was his passion. Prior to serving the Board, Bob worked for the NC Departments of Transportation, Crime Control, and for his father at Brooks Appliance Company on Blount Street.
In addition to his career, Bob was extremely involved with the Raleigh Kiwanis Club. He physically went EVERY Friday (when he was not traveling) and even figured out how to go virtually when he was unable to attend in person. During his time with the Kiwanis, there were few roles he did not serve, and he was very proud of his involvement with the Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast and their booth at the NC State Fair. Prior to his Kiwanis days, Bob was an active member of the Raleigh Jaycees where he set the foundation for his level of over achievement and especially loved the year he served as the Executive Director of the Miss North Carolina Pageant. Bob also enjoyed his time with the Raleigh Sports Club and the Ole Raleigh Boys Club.
When he was not working or going to service clubs, Bob could be found rooting for his beloved Wolfpack. Bob was known for his executive level of organization and planning that went into tailgating for NCSU football games at Carter-Finley. GO PACK!
Bob is survived by his wife of over 52 years, Camille (Camie) Barnes Brooks, who he affectionately called Camilla; his beloved schnauzers, Dottie Mae and Fritzi Lou Who; his daughters, Caroline Nowell Brooks and her fiancé Colin Drakeford; Jenny Brooks Johnston and her fiancé David Benson; his grandchildren, Ashley Geel, Christopher Geel, and Elizabeth Johnston; his brother, William Oliver Brooks III and his wife Sarah Ramsey Brooks; nephew, William Oliver Brooks IV and his wife Katie Brooks.
He was predeceased in death by his mother, Mary Elizabeth Nowell Brooks and his father, William Oliver Brooks, Jr.; his most beloved schnauzers, Scruffie Doodle and Fritzi Too (along with about 20 others), and his lifelong best friends, Neal Robertson and Howard Hadley.
