Richard is greatly missed ... I still expect you both to walk through the door to greet me with a hug. I am so sorry for your loss and wish I could have been to the memorial but travel prevented it. You are all in my thoughts and prayers every day. Wishing you healing in your hearts. It was an honor to know Doc over the past 6 years and I enjoyed our conversations very much. See you soon.

It's hard to believe that we will not run into Dr. Dillman at any local or national veterinary function anymore. I will always hold him in the highest regard as a terrific teacher of veterinary medicine, in the fullest sense of the word. He was a warm and funny man and may his family find comfort in the love his well wishers shared for him and for them, and in their faith. Jan Batker, class of 1985.

I am deeply saddened by the passing of Dick. There is not a kinder person that I have known over the past 33 years, From the early days, when he made me feel welcome when I joined the CVM faculty, his warm smile and wry humor were always at the ready whenever we met, whether talking earnestly about student performance and course content, or trying to stay awake in a really boring meeting. He had a calming and inspiring influence on so many young lives as an award-winning teacher here at the CVM. My most heart-felt sympathies go to the Dilllman family.

I was privileged to be mentored by Dr. Dillman from 1975 - 1979 during my undergraduate years at NCSU.  I even spent a summer "working" in his office in the old Veterinary Science building on Western Boulevard.  I was so thankful for his influence then, and in later years.  I will be forever grateful for his wisdom back then as it helped carry me through the past 30 some years as a veterinarian.  My sincerest sympathies to the Dillman family on his passing.  His was a life well-lived.

Mrs Dillman, I was very sad to hear this news.  Every time I drive through the neighborhood, I think of your family fondly.  I wish I could be there for the service, but my thoughts will be with you, Teresa, and Patrick.

What a great guy overall and as a colleague, a co-worker and mentor when i began my career as a veterinary pathologist at NCSU in 1991 and in 1997. I'll never forget how much fun he had when i brought him to his 1st hockey game, the Raleigh Ice Caps at Dorton Arena circa 1992.  He actually liked it!

Such a sad loss for the veterinary community.   I have many fond memories of being a student of Dr. Dillman's.   He had a great rapport with all the students and we all feel very fortunate to have had him as a professor.  He certainly will be missed.

My condolences to the Dillman family.  I have many fond memories of his mentorship in vet school.  There must be hundreds of us who think of him when we work with Boston terriers!  I am thankful I had the chance to see him at our reunion a couple of years ago.  He remembered each of us by name, and his dry sense of humor had us all in stitches.

Dr. Dillman was one of my most inspiring instructors at NCSU-CVM. As a teacher I find myself using his phrase running through it with our bare feet and think of him each time I say it. His love for pathology and his concern for students always made him a role model for me. Sincere condolences to his family.

I'm very saddened to hear of the passing of Dr. Dillman. He made a huge impression on me and countless others in veterinary school and pathology class, and I was proud to be the recipient of the pathology award named for him. As a veterinary pathologist at a veterinary school now too, I think of him often, especially with anything having to do with Boston terriers! Our veterinary pathology community has lost another great one. My condolences to the Dillman family.

Dr. Dillman not only interviewed me to get into veterinary school but he stayed my mentor for the full 4 years of school and was kind and supportive and encouraging during the stressful years of graduate studies.  My sympathies to the family he left behind.  My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Dr. Dillman made pathology interesting and fun. He was a great teacher and I am sorry more students did not get to experience him. I am thankful that I was one of the lucky one.

I was fortunate enough to have Dr. Dillman as one of my teachers at the vet school.  He was an excellent instructor during school and a friend after.  To his family, I grieve with you.

I am so sorry to learn of Dr. Dillman's death. I was fortunate to have been in his veterinary pathology class, he was one of my favorite professors. I always looked forward to his class as he had a calm, knowledgeable delivery style that included well-placed dashes of wonderfully dry humor. I was totally engaged! Dear Dillman family

So sorry to hear of the passing of Dr. Dillman.  His influence continues decades after sitting in his classroom and being both entertained and taught by Dr. Dillman.  He was a wonderful teacher, mentor, veterinarian and a great person.  In this time of sorrow, I hope it brings some comfort in knowing how much Dr. Dillman was appreciated by his colleagues and the countless people who are better veterinarians because of their association with Dr. DIllman.

Dr. Dillman was a wonderful positive influence on a generation of veterinary students at NCSU. As one of those students, I will always be grateful to him for sharing his deep knowledge of pathology, and for inspiring us with his example of joyful scholarly curiosity, professionalism, and good humor.

I am saddened to hear about Dr. Dillman's death. I was in veterinary school when Dr. Dillman was at NCSU.  I can only say that he was a very positive influence for me and many others.  His humor and kindness will not be forgotten by those that knew him.  It has been over 25 years since I last saw him and I still remember his smile and laughter.

Dr. Dillman was my adviser in undergraduate school at NC State and was a huge influence on my becoming a veterinarian.  His sense of humor and caring towards me and my classmates will always be remembered.  Truly he was a shining star in our profession. He will be sorely missed by all of his students.  As a member of the first class at NC State's College of Veterinary Medicine, our entire class loved and admired him.

A wonderful teacher and excellent service pathologist with a delightful sense of humor.  Always interested in what was going on with those around him and a good source of advice when I needed it most.  A veterinarian's veterinarian and a pathologist's pathologist.  I'll miss him.

Dr. Dillman was one of my favorite professors at NCSU CVM.  His calm demeanor and sense of humor made learning a dry, tough subject like pathology enjoyable. Outside of class he was a mentor to myself and many of my classmates. .   His family should know that he was well loved by his students. I will always remember him fondly. While I did not work with Dr. Dillman directly, I did have the honor of meeting him and observing his work. He was always kind and patient when we did interact - a true gentleman. I'm sorry for your loss.

Dear Dillman family,
So sad for your loss, but happy for Dick's gain to be united with his Savior in Heaven! I did not know you Carol when I first met Dick, but spent many, many Saturday mornings at Colonial Baptist Church in a Bible study class with Dick and George Berbarian, Bill Ludwig, Paul Kinney, Doug Auld, and Ben LaCorte. I remember many great discussions and insights and Dick had a very special intensity and care for his fellow believers and loyalty and faith in his Lord. He will be sorely missed.

I was so sorry to hear from Aunt Barb Dillman of Uncle Dick's passing.  He was almost like a big brother to me when I was growing up.  He is the one who encouraged me to go into the profession of medical technology.  I will miss his wisdom and sense of humor.

Very sorry to learn of Dr. Dillman's passing. He was always ready with a friendly conversation with junior colleagues up in the emeritus & resident office space on Blue Ridge, and we also had the Iowa State connection. Always enjoyed and appreciated interacting with him. Condolences to his family.
