Randy Duane Bryant

Randy Duane Bryant, 63, of Raleigh passed away suddenly on Thursday, June 13, 2019. Randy was born in Raleigh on March 20, 1956, his parents were the late Samuel Paul Bryant and Hazel Poole Bryant. He lived in Raleigh his entire life and loved his hometown and everything it has to offer.

Randy grew up and lived in the Longview Gardens area for most of his life. He attended Longview Elementary, Aycock Jr. High and graduating in 1974 from Enloe High School. He then graduated with a Bachelors Degree from Campbell University in Buies Creek, NC.

Randy retired as a teacher and taught Spanish at numerous elementary and high schools in Wake County. After retiring, he worked as a photo journalist for the Triangle Downtowner Magazine, which allowed him to share with everyone what Raleigh looked like and meant to him.

One of Randy's favorite places in Raleigh was the Roast Grill, where he spent countless hours with friends, customers and especially with the Poniros / Charles family. Randy developed many life-long relationships, including numerous friends and families in the Hispanic community of Raleigh - especially the Manzolillo-Franco and Garcia families.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Juanita Bryant, Betty Yoder and Donna Eddins; three brothers, Paul, Scott and Henry Bryant; nephew, Larry Bryant; and his beloved dog, Molly.

He is survived by two brothers, Robert (Pat) and Jerry Bryant (Jackie); one sister, Ann Bryant; nieces, Brenda Moore, Sheryl Bryant, Lauren Simpson, Melanie Hood and Ashley McGowan; nephews, Robert Jr., Barry, Steve, Dan, Scott, Doug, Sammy, Bobby, Brad, Henry Jr., Wayne, Jerry Jr., and Scott Bryant; additional nephews, Glenn III, Jeff, Paul Yoder and Joseph Nunn, and Jeff and Greg Eddins; and life-long friends, Dennis Perry, Larry Dean, Ricky King, and Brad Clark.

Randy’s grandnephew Eric Bryant died by suicide and Randy was always supportive of the family’s efforts to increase mental health awareness and access to services and he was active in fundraising to this end. HopeLine offers a 24-hour crisis intervention and suicide prevention crisis/text line.

Throughout his life, Randy developed many lasting relationships with Hispanic families in the Raleigh area. The North Carolina Hispanic College Fund promotes the education of Hispanic students at all scholastic levels and awards annual scholarships to help pay for the education of students who desire to attend college.

Randy's nephew Larry Bryant died due to complications of MS and Randy loved Larry dearly. The MS Society offers many services and resources to help people affected by MS live their best lives.

A service to celebrate and honor Randy's life will be held at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 300 Saint Mary's Street Raleigh, NC, (919) 828-4311.
