Sue was born on August 26, 1935 in Fayetteville, NC to the late John D Phillips and Annie Sue Askew Phillips. Residing in Raleigh most of her life, Sue attended Hayes Barton Elementary, Broughton High School (Class of ’53) and Atlantic Christian College. Sue and her beloved husband Ed Bailey raised four children, Chip, David, Nancy and Barbara.
She was a devoted wife and mother, grandmom and Mimi, finding her greatest joy in family gatherings and beach trips. As a life long member at Hillyer Memorial Christian Church, Sue held a deep love for her church and church family. She served in several leadership capacities and was a spiritual influence to the life of her family. Although being a homemaker and wife was Sue’s greatest passion, she was also successful in her work with Hutchinson and Associates, the NC Bar Association, and her antique and word processing businesses.
She is survived by her children David Bailey (Susan) and Barbara Bailey Healy (Mike), 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren- Megan Bailey Flaherty (Brian), Avery, Claire and Hayes; Jennifer Bailey Dean (Alex), Carson, Bailey and Tucker; AJ Trevillian (Jennifer), Madelyn and Nolan; Adam Trevillian (Rheagan), Nathan Trevillian (Victoria) and Hayes; David Healy (Kelsey), Charlie Healy (Kelsey) and Henry; Daniel Healy (Claire) and Stella; Jared Wilson (Julia) and Everett; and Rebecca Bailey (Demetrius). Her son in law, John Trevillian, and daughter in law, Kerri Bailey. Sue is also survived by her sisters Mary Ann Boxley and Linda Phillips.
Sue was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ed Bailey; her son, Chip Bailey, and her daughter, Nancy Bailey Trevillian also predeceased her.
All who knew Sue remember her as a loving caregiver, with the treasured gifts of hospitality, energy and organization. Sue was admired as the anchor of her family through her strength, perseverance, and faith.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 16, 2024 at Hillyer Memorial Christian Church by Rev. Daniel U’Ren. Visitation will be in the church fellowship hall at 9:30 am. Interment will follow after the service at Montlawn Memorial Park.
