Millie Williams, affectionately called “Meme,” passed away on September 24, 2023 while in the loving care of her daughter, granddaughter and son whom cared for in her daughter’s home. Millie was 91 years old. Millie was loved by all for her kind gentle heart and her loving spirit which came from her faith in Jesus.
Millie was married to Ralph Benton Williams for 35 years who predeceased her and they were blessed with two children, Robert Benton Williams (Bobby) and Wendy Ann Williams Morton (h. Tim). Millie had two granddaughters Erin Rebecca Morton and Courtney Ann Morton Brett (h. Dan).
With joy and trust in God’s Perfect Plan, Millie anticipated the birth of her first great grandchild.
Like many in her family, Millie was a hard working Christian woman and loved her church family at Longview Baptist Church. After caring for children most of her life, at 69 she began a career at Walmart for twenty plus years. She was Walmart’s “Barney Fife catching thieves with a quick eye and a sweet voice.”
Millie believed in the Holy Word of God and expressed her faith daily to anyone with whom she came in contact. Millie’s favorite Bible verse was John 14:2 – “In my Father’s House are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you.” KJV
Millie was preceded in death by her parents Mattie and Ernest Wood, her husband Ralph, two brothers James and JW, and two sisters Geraldine Wood and Ernestine Smith. Surviving sisters are Josephine Harper and Alice Dew.
A funeral service was held on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at Mitchell Funeral Home, followed by burial in Raleigh Memorial Park.
