Mickey Junior McKnight 89, entered into the presence of Jesus, his Lord and Savior on January 30, 2021 in the comfort of his home in Durham, North Carolina, surrounded by his adoring family. He was born on May 13, 1931 in Braymer, Missouri.
During his life, he was a devout Christian and was dedicated to his family and community. He served in church as a Deacon, and a servant in any capacity asked of him. Mickey enjoyed coaching for various sports programs that his sons participated in.
Mickey served his country in the Navy, the Air Force and then retired as Chief Warrant Officer-3 in the Army. Retired with Military Honors: National Defense Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster; United Nations Service Medal; Korean Service Medal; Good Conduct Medal-Bronze Clasps with 2 Loops; Vietnam Service Medal; Vietnam Campaign Medal; Army Commendation Medal with 1st Oak Leaf Cluster.
He is survived by his wife, Maggie Goll McKnight, to whom he was married for 65 years, his son, Steve and wife, Rickie, son Mark and wife, Kimberly, Jerry and wife, Joy, sisters, Judy Vanderpool, Patsy Peters and Brenda Regas, fourteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and three great, great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his father, Lawrence McKnight, mother, Herma McKnight, sisters Trudy McKnight and Barbara Wetzel brother, Jimmy McKnight; and grandson David McKnight.
A private family funeral, with Military Honors, will be held at Olive Branch Baptist Church in Durham, North Carolina, on February 3, 2021 at 11:00 A.M., officiated by Pastor Tim Wheeler. A recording of the service will be available for viewing afterwards on the Facebook Page of Mitchell Funeral Home at Raleigh Memorial Park.
