Mike’s greatest joys were his wife, children, and grandchildren. He will be fondly remembered for his love of woodworking, photography, books, poetry, and big bowls of ice cream. Mike married his high school sweetheart, Donna, and was a devoted husband for nearly 47 years. He was all that a Dad and Poppa could be with his abundance of wisdom, selflessness, and optimism.
One of Mike’s greatest gifts was loving and encouraging people. He was quick to listen, slow to anger, and always ready to make a friend. He was a long-time, active member at Trinity Baptist Church, serving as a Sunday school teacher, a deacon, and a Bible study leader. Mike always loved sharing his faith.
Being a servant leader, he was at his best when surrounded by people. As a youth, he was a high school football captain. As a young man, he served as a Raleigh Police officer. In his thirties and beyond, Mike poured so much of himself into founding and building a business based on integrity and spent many years loving his staff and their families as his own.
He battled Parkinson’s Disease for more than 26 years, but for everything the disease drained from him, God replenished with faith and love. He was always there for everyone with a helping hand, a big heart, and a friendly smile – living out his nickname from high school, Smiley.
Mike is survived by his wife, Donna Porch Tucker; daughter, Tracy Bullock and husband Christopher; daughter, Meredith Mallory and husband David; son, Christopher Tucker and wife Katie; grandchildren: Caroline Taylor Mallory, Claire Morgan Mallory, Tucker James Bullock, Gray Michael Bullock, Jackson McCree Tucker, Reagan Elizabeth Tucker; sister, Terri Bordeaux.
He is predeceased by his parents, Billy and Peggy Tucker.
A service celebrating Mike’s life will be held at Trinity Baptist Church on Monday, December 19 at 3:00 PM. The family will receive friends prior to the service at 1:30 PM.
